Reflecting on themes and ideas

Practice reflective task – In role as Malcolm, consider the understanding you have gained of the “fair is foul and foul is fair motif”. What have you learned? How did you learn it? What are the implications for you of the outcome of the play? Ambition What is ambition? Which characters are motivated by ambition? How do they action their ambition? What are the consequences of their ambition? Rewards/punishment? What does the play say about ambition as a result of considering whose ambition is rewarded and whose is punished? Practice reflective task - In role as Macbeth reflect on what you have learned about ambition during the course of the play. This should involve an analysis of what the play says about ambition, the attitudes and values supported in the play in relation to this idea. Post to your blog as soon as possible.

Weekend homework Wk 3

Consider the characters in the play and decide which character you are going to choose for your oral. Go back through your notes and identify a possible gap in the play. Make notes on the character. What is your reading of him or her? On what do you base your reading? What are the implications of this for the gap you have identified? What might the character be considering at this point in the play?

Term 3 Week 2 Macbeth Homework

Write a page in which you reflect on the use “Fair is foul, foul is fair” motif in this act. Trace its overt use but also use it to reflect on the characters. For example, how does it affect your view of Macbeth who is introduced as brave and noble? Publish to your blog by 4 pm Tuesday next week.

Week 2 Homework

Re-read Chapter 9 of The Catcher in the Rye. Tell the story of what happens in this chapter using third person narration. Use the narrative voice and possibly the thoughts of the other characters to reveal your feelings about Holden at this point. Position your reader to view Holden in the way you choose. Do you want readers to view him as a lonely adolescent with whom they should sympathise, as a loser and a dropout or in some other way.

Term 2 Week 1 Homework

Chapters 4 - 6

Write a description of the incident between Holden and Stradlater from Stradlater’s point of view. Try to give Stradlater a unique voice – different from Holden’s but essentially adolescent.

Term 3 Week 3 Homework

Trace the changes that we see in Macbeth from the opening scenes when he is presented to us as "brave Macbeth", the hero, to the "tyrant" Macbeth we see described by Lennox in Act 3, Scene 6 and by Malcolm in Act 4, Scene 3, lines 67-68. Consider both how he is described by others and how the play positions readers to view him through his actions and his own words.
