Wednesday's lesson

Re-read  pages 33 and 34 – the end of Chapter 5. Holden's parents are silenced in the book. What do you think they are like? They have lost a son and have sent Holden to boarding school. Why did they do this? How do they feel about Holden? Write a piece in the voice of either Holden’s mother or father, commenting on Holden’s reaction to Allie’s death and their concerns about him. Post to your blog.

Explore your  responses to Holden in Chapters 1-3. What is something you like about Holden? Something you dislike? Justify on the basis of these chapters. Read page 15 – note the red hunting hat. When does Holden wear it and why? Find other examples in the first few chapters to help inform your thinking.
